People staying at a Cumbria B&B are being urged to volunteer to take part in a new tree-planting scheme going ahead in the Lake District.

The £40,000 project is being staged by the Lake District National Park Authority in order to increase the density of trees in this area of outstanding natural beauty.

Under the project, 11,000 trees have already been planted in newly-created woodland areas around Uldale Common and Caldbeck, reports BBC News.

These two areas, alongside spaces in Roughton Gills, Charleton and Burblethwaite, will be fenced off for security so that the native broadleaf and juniper trees can flourish.

However, the Park Authority is concerned that some of the saplings have not been able to survive since they were planted.

This means that new trees have to be put in the soil and the authority is requesting volunteers to come and help with this.

People staying at a Cumbria B&B are being invited to meet at Burblethwaite on November 22 to offer a hand to this worthy project.
