Leading artist Tracey Emin has given one of her works of art to Scotland to be enjoyed by people staying at an Edinburgh B&B.

A successful retrospective exhibition of Emin's work comes to a close on Sunday at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh.

Therefore the artist has opted to thank Scotland by donating a 13-foot sculpture titled Roman Standard which is a bronze pole topped by a bird and is said to be worth £75,000.

Emin said to The Herald: "Patrick Elliott, the curator of the exhibition had seemed ecstatically happy about the positioning of my sculpture, Roman Standard."

"He said it looked like it had always been there and that's the seed that was sown," she explained.

"I thought to myself that while it hadn't always been there, why shouldn't it stay there?" she added. "The gift of Roman Standard is a gift to the Scottish National Galleries and to Edinburgh to say thank you."

This generous gift from a leading British artist will most likely prove a popular attraction for years to come among people staying at an Edinburgh B&B.
