Edinburgh B&B: Government funding for Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival
29th May 2009Visitors planning a stay in an Edinburgh B&B in the first week of August could plan a trip to the 2009 Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival, which is receiving government funding.
Money totalling £100,000 has been allocated from the Edinburgh Festivals Expo Fund and will be used to fund a commissioned piece from jazz pianist David Milligan that remembers the great Robert Burns.
The money will also help finance the Scottish Jazz Expo, reports the Edinburgh Evening News.
In addition, 16 musicians from Europe, Scotland and America will be united for the Edinburgh Jazz Festival Orchestra, which could appeal to jazz fans around the world.
Brian Fallon, chair of the festival, told the paper: "The funding from the Scottish government means that the orchestra will perform at the highest level. The Expo also supports a thrilling series of concerts."
More than 50,000 people could attend the festival when it begins on July 31st and it is the longest-running jazz festival in the UK.
Meanwhile, the Norturne Series of cycling events takes place in Edinburgh for the first time tomorrow night (May 30th), according to cyclingweekly.co.uk, which could interest people staying at the many Edinburgh B&Bs.
