People staying at a Blackpool B&B may have had the chance to take part in a giant picnic recently held to celebrate the reopening of a Lancashire landmark.

Clitheroe Castle was reopened after undergoing £3.5 million of refurbishments and nearly 1,000 people gathered in the grounds to have a picnic and mark the occasion, reports the Clitherose Advertiser and Times.

The picnic was just one of nearly 120 separate events that were organised by Ribble Valley borough council and that also involved the Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board.

People enjoying the picnic with members of the public included Councillor Mary Robinson, the mayor of Clitheroe and Councillor Beverley Jones, the mayor of the Ribble Valley, while the event was begun by town crier Roland Hailwood.

Improvements to the castle include a series of interactive displays, a museum and a new cafe area, as well as a range of new exhibits.

In other Lancashire news, people staying at a Blackpool B&B may have caught sight of a huge dance event in the town, which the Blackpool Gazette reports involved around 600 people trying to set the record for the biggest ever dance session.
