Cornwall B&B: Popularity of region soars as Britons stay in UK
9th Jun 2009The number of people booking a stay in a Cornwall B&B over the coming months may increase as the region has topped a Travelodge popularity poll in the UK.
Around six per cent fewer Britons are going abroad on holiday this year as a result of the recession and Cornwall has topped the list of where holidaymakers will be heading in the UK.
Despite the increase, visitors are expected to respond to the recession at home as well by spending an average of £60 less than they have done in previous years, although accommodation is forecast to be the biggest expense for most people.
Paul Harvey, Travelodge managing director, said: "With the Met Office predicting glorious weather and a majority of holidaymakers looking to stay at home, this year the resorts and destinations of the UK will be jam packed with British tourists."
The survey revealed that the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales are second and third in the list of the most popular destinations in the UK.
