Edinburgh B&B: Festivals could thrive in recession
2nd Jun 2009People planning a stay in an Edinburgh B&B this summer could find themselves in good company as festivals and events could prove massively popular.
More people are planning to stay at home over the coming months in response to the recession and the result has been higher ticket sales for events throughout Scotland as many look for things to do on their home turf, reports the Times.
The Edinburgh International Festival, the Stena Line Wigtown Book Festival and T in the Park are just a few of the events that could see higher attendances in the coming months.
Jamie Semple, director of the Gathering, scheduled for Edinburgh at the end of July, told the paper: "People asked me what the big meltdown has done. Well, for us there was a sudden great pause when nothing happened and then we picked up a huge amount of sales."
In other news that could interest people staying in an Edinburgh B&B, the Edinburgh Evening News reports that the heritage of the city's Old Town will be celebrated during a two-week festival from June 15th.
